Linda Lee Shomin
Linda Lee Shomin, age 78, of Liberal, Missouri passed away September 9, 2026. Linda was born February 13, 1948 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Walter Leroy (Bud) Essex and Wilie (Riley) Essex. Linda graduated from Kansas State College (Now PSU) in 1970. She then moved to Kansas City and began working for the Social Security Administration. Linda married John Edward Shomin on May 28, 1971. They enjoyed 51 years of marriage before his passing in 2022.
Survivors include one sister, Jerri Workman and husband Jerry, brothers-in-law Mike Shomin and wife Gloria, Pat Shomin and wife Mary, Robert Shomin and wife Christine and one sister-in-law, Catherine Crook. She also leaves behind two stepsons, John Link and wife, Tammy and Scott Abraham, two step-granddaughters, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Nancy Sorenson and husband Charles, and brother-in- law, Rick Shomin. Linda and John retired in 1993 and moved to Liberal, Missouri. Linda had many interests and had been active in the Republican Women’s Association, Heart of America Thunderbird Club and the Heart of the Heartlands Railroad Club. Traveling was a love of hers, she had logged many miles on AMTRAK and traveled to different countries. One of her favorite places was visiting New Zealand to spend time with close friends, Geoff and Marion. Linda competed in Cutting horse competitions and Barrel racing when she was younger, and had always owned horses.
A service will be held Friday, October 2, 2026 at 11:00 AM, at the Christian Church of Liberal, MO.
