Loren Ray West

December 30, 1944 – August 28, 2026

It is with much love that we mourn the passing of Loren Ray West who was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away on August 28, 2026. Loren was born on December 30, 1944, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, to his parents Ulys S. West and Glenda Lee (Harral) West. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was a testament to service, love, and dedication.

Loren’s early years were spent living in Crescent and Guthrie Oklahoma. Loren’s family moved to Cushing when he was in the 7th grade. He spent the remainder of his years in Cushing and graduated with the Cushing High School class of 1963. His passion for education led to Oklahoma State University, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degree, along with his Administration Credentials. Loren’s career was marked by his commitment to nurturing young minds as a former principal and teacher at Sunnyside Elementary School. He continued his dedication to public service as the Facilities Manager of Cushing Public Schools, and through his leadership as the Mayor and a City Commission Member for the city of Cushing. He also served as the President of the Cushing Alumni Association, where he worked tirelessly to acquire and renovate the current Alumni Hall.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Loren was a long-time member of the Cushing Civil Defense. He was known for his unwavering sense of duty and loyalty, always striving to do the right thing for his family, friends, and community. Loren’s love for sports, especially for his alma mater, Oklahoma State University, was infectious. He proudly cheered for the Cowboys with sincere enthusiasm—Go Pokes!

Loren’s heart was as vibrant as his spirit. After moving to Joplin he became involved in his local church, serving in missions and hospitality where he found great joy as a greeter as well as lending a helping hand wherever he was needed. His faith and commitment to the betterment of others were guiding lights in his life.

Loren is lovingly remembered by his wife of 30 years, Karen West, his son Randall Scott West and wife Kimberly as well as his stepson Christopher Selsor and wife Lauren. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren, Miranda (West) Chrisman and husband Steven, Clark West and wife Natalie, Olivia Selsor, and Tristan Selsor and also great-grandchildren, Isaac West and Ellis West. Loren is also survived by brother Gary West, and nephews Jason West, Blake West, Dylan West, and Drew West. He is predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Danny West and Michael West.

A Celebration of Life Service to honor Loren will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 1:30 PM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2423 W 26th Street, Joplin, MO.

Loren Ray West will forever be remembered for his compassionate heart, his unwavering dedication, and the profound impact he left on so many lives. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
