Lonny Vaughn Matlock
Lonny Vaughn Matlock, 65, passed away peacefully at his home on June 27, 2026.
Lonny was born on May 18, 1961 in Girard, Kansas to Donald and Luanne Matlock. He enjoyed his artwork, quail hunting, and gardening. He spent his early years enjoying the occasional ride on his 1964 Harley Davidson Panhead. Later in life, he traded the two wheels for a 1997 BMW Z3. He enjoyed spending time with people he loved along with his dog, Rocket. More than anything else, Lonny enjoyed making memories with his first grandson, Boone.
While in Junior High, Lonny was saved at Fort Scott Presbyterian Church. He later graduated from Fort Scott High School. Lonny went to work for the Railroad after school, Starting with the “Frisco” railway and remaining there after a merger that became the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF). While working on the railroad Lonny also served an enlistment in the U.S. Army Reserve. During that period of his life he welcomed two sons Evan and Ethan. Evan in 1990, and eighteen months later, Ethan in 1992.
Lonny Matlock leaves behind his sons Evan Matlock, Ethan (Kendra) Matlock; His mother Luanne Matlock (née Shipman); his siblings Joey Matlock (Lori), Amy Matlock, Stacy Matlock, and Daniel Matlock; Nephews and nieces including, Jacob, Cheyenne, Caleb, Seth, Alex, Andrew, and tyler. Along with many extended family members.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 19, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Timber’s Ridge in Beulah, Kansas.
Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Ozark Memorial Park Crematory of Joplin, Missouri.
