Albert Lee Runge
Albert Lee Runge, born May 13, 1935, to Elmer and Alma Runge, passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2026.
Al lived a life centered on faith, family, and the things that brought him joy. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, and later obtained his Master’s Degree in School Administration from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri.
He began his career as a basketball coach at Parkview High School in Springfield, where he shared his passion for sports and mentoring young people. He later served as owner of a boating business before relocating to Joplin, Missouri, where he continued building relationships and serving others through his work with Pro 100 Realtors until his retirement in 2017.
While Al had many accomplishments throughout his life, those who knew him best knew that titles and careers were never what defined him. His greatest love was Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, who guided his life and strengthened his faith. He was a devoted member of Crosspoint Fellowship in Diamond, Missouri, where his faith continued to grow and where he found fellowship and friendship.
Family meant everything to Al. On December 22, 1989, he married Marilyn Jane Marsh, and together they shared 36 wonderful years of love, partnership, laughter, and memories. He treasured the time spent with his family and especially loved gathering together, watching sports, sharing stories, and celebrating life’s moments big and small.
Sports were one of Al’s lifelong passions. Whether it was basketball, baseball, or golf, he loved both the games themselves and the connections they created. He was often cheering on a team, talking sports with family and friends, or simply enjoying being part of the excitement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Marilyn, and their faithful companion Ally of the home; his children, Allison and Jim Dardenne, Alan and Traci Runge, Andrew and Michele Runge, Paula and Tony Voris, Delaney and Jessie Marsh, and Kip and Renelle Marsh; his grandchildren, Julia and Avery Bouchard, Alec and Jamie Runge, Wade and Chloe Voris, Drew Voris, Forrest Marsh, Liam Marsh, and Gwenna Marsh; and his great-grandchildren, Iggy and Zelda Bouchard. And several very special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alma Runge; his brother, Gary Runge; his sister, Loretta Killion; and his grandson, Geremiah Marsh.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Geneiva Hospice, Dr. Kern, and Steve Mosely, and also our biological and church families for the compassion, kindness, and care they provided during Al’s final journey.
Al will be remembered for his steadfast faith, love of family, warm heart, and the many lives he touched through friendship, encouragement, and love. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Celebration of Life services to be held Thursday May 21, at 11 am at Crosspoint Fellowship in Diamond Missouri
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Ozark Memorial Park Crematory of Joplin Missouri
