Alma Yetive (Stewart) Allen
Alma Yetive (Stewart) Allen of rural Baxter springs passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 29, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born May 2, 1935 in Springfield, Missouri, the first of three children born to Mavin Overton and Lenora Yetive (Gossett) Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Mavin Odell Stewart, and her baby sister, Nettie Margaret Stewart.
Alma was married to Roger Dale Allen on September 1, 1957 at the First Methodist church in Galena, Kansas. They had met on a blind date in Joplin, Missouri and became engaged on Easter weekend of 1957. They were the parents of four children, Kathleen (Lonnie) Moss of Oronogo, Missouri, Barbara Allen and Kent Allen of the home, and Pamela (Lloyd) Dillard, of Baxter Springs. Also surviving are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Stephanie (Tim) White and their children, Titus, Quintin, and Truman of Lubbock, Texas, Christine White of Phoenix, Arizona; Joshua Dillard of Joplin, and Daniel (Christina) Moss and their son, Ethan of Carthage, Missouri.
Alma and brother, Skip, lived in Crane, Missouri with their maternal grandparents, Odell and Nettie Gossett, after the deaths of their mother and baby sister. While there, they attended Crane Elementary School. After the end of World War II, they moved to Wheaton, Missouri to live with their father, their stepmother, Shirley and their new sister, Joyce Elizabeth. Alma continued her education here, graduating from Wheaton High School with the Class of 1953. While in high school, she was active in volleyball, basketball and softball. After graduation, she attended St. John’s Sisters of Mercy Nursing School, and graduated as a member of Class of 1956, the last class to graduate from this location.
Alma was very involved with all her children’s activities, especially band, sports and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. After rearing her four children, she worked at a variety of jobs before she and Roger began their own business, A&R Electric, from which they retired. She enjoyed the hobbies of photography and genealogy, and the companionship of her Shelties (expecially Shotzie) and her Dachsunds (especially Bailie).
Out of respect for Alma’s wishes, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory may make donations directly to the Galena Nursing Center at 1220 East Eighth Street, Galena, KS 66739, to benefit the activity fund. Her family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff there for the loving and compassionate care she received.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park of Joplin, Missouri
