William “Gene” Eugene Kesinger
William “Gene” Eugene Kesinger, a wonderful man from Columbus, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on March 19, 1952, in Joplin, Missouri to William and Bonnie Kesinger. Gene was preceded in death by his father, mother, his brothers, Jimmy, Stan, Donald, Michael, Charlie, Richard, his sister, Linda Dunn, and his son, Timothy.
A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Gene exemplified the characteristics of a soldier. Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Throughout his military career he was the epitome of a soldier. After returning home, he met and married the love of his life of 54 years and had 4 beautiful children. He dedicated his entire life to his family and serving his Joplin community. After 45 years of hard work and dedication to his career, Gene retired and enthusiastically committed his remaining years to being a full-time husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia Kesinger, his brothers, Cliff and John, his sisters, Wendy and Charlotte, and his loyal puppy, Hank. His children: William (Gwen) of Webb City, MO, Jennifer (Jim) Zumo, of Ozark, MO, Sabrina (Matt) Gideon, of Columbus, KS, and Christian Kesinger, of Columbus, KS. His Grandchildren Megan, Aaron (Andrea), Samantha (Ryan), Benjamin (Katelyn), Jacob (Dallas), Kyle (Canon), Matthew, Josh, Justin (Kaylee), Hannah, Allison (Olen), Ashley (Cody), and Audrey; 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Gene’s legacy of service and gratitude will continue through the countless lives that he graciously touched. A Celebration of Life will be held in Gene’s honor on Saturday, February 28th at 11:00am at Fellowship Baptist Church, 2827 E 32nd St, Joplin, MO 64804. The family invites all those who knew and loved Gene to join them for this time of honor and remembrance.
