Catherine R. Wendt

June 9, 1941 – November 10, 2025

There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold and she is buying the stairway to Heaven…..

Catherine R Wendt, 84, Joplin, MO, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025 at her home. She was born on June 9, 1941, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Gertrude (Baker) and Edward Neid.

Cathy grew up in a household with 5 brothers, she was a good sister! On October 30, 1959 she married Wesley W Wendt. Together they raised two children, Wendy K Belden (Clemons) and Wayne W Wendt. In the early 80s they moved to Joplin where they started and ran a successful vending business for more than 30 years. Cathy and Wes shared a love of travel, exploring the United States in their motorhome and creating countless memories together.

Family was the center of Cathy’s world. She deeply loved her grandsons, Alec Belden and his fiance’ Emma Pound and Weston Wendt and welcomed Wendy’s husband, David K Clemons into her heart along with his children Matt Clemons (Alexis) and Evan Clemons, and her two great-granddaughters, Blake Anna and Elodie Aaron.

After discovering Pickleball on a trip to Florida, Cathy brought her passion home to Joplin earning the affectionate title of the “Queen of Pickleball”. She shared her enthusiasm by teaching others to play, forming many lasting friendships along the way. Her contagious dedication, personality and smile touched everyone that came in contact with her. She had special nicknames for all!

She also had many good, good friends that were a source of joy to her. They also became good friends of Wendy. Wendy’s besties called her mom and indeed she was and would do anything for any of them. So many supported Wendy on this journey with mom by offering prayers, support, big hugs and kindness. Their contribution to our lives is immeasurable.

Cathy was preceded in death by her son, Wayne W Wendt, her parents and her youngest brother Bill. Her absence is deeply felt….her family finds peace knowing she is rejoicing, singing, dancing and playing pickleball in heaven. Her bright spirit and light will continue to shine over all who love her.
