Scott Shannon Pendergrass

Scott Shannon Pendergrass, born February 11, 1966, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love. Known for his deep appreciation of the outdoors and the quiet joys of family life, Scott’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and family.
Scott found true happiness in the simple pleasures of life—gardening, fishing, hunting, bird watching and spending time in nature. Whether tending to his garden, walking through the woods or feeding the hummingbirds, he felt most at peace when surrounded by the beauty of the natural world. But above all, Scott cherished time spent with his family.

His greatest pride and joy was his daughter, Alison, and his beloved granddaughter, Lorene—affectionately known as “Jackpot,” a name born from his favorite saying: “I hit the jackpot the day she was born.” His love for them was deep, constant, and boundless.

A Christian, Scott attended Carthage Freewill Baptist Church, where he found comfort and inspiration in the Lord’s message, especially through the heartfelt sermons of Pastor Brian Brinkhoff. He deeply valued the fellowship and friendships he formed within the church community.

Scott is preceded in death by his mother, Lynda Moore of Marionville, MO; his father, Charles Pendergrass of Franklin, NC; in-laws, James and Francelene Hathcock of Brixey, MO and Nuel and Zelma Cockrum of Ava, MO.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharolette Cockrum Pendergrass of Oronogo, MO; daughter, Alison Pendergrass Enochs; and granddaughter, Lorene Pendergrass, both of Carterville, MO. He is also survived by his stepfather, Larry Moore of Marionville, MO; brothers, Robert Pendergrass of Franklin, NC; Tim Pendergrass and wife Kandie of Aurora, MO; Jason Hornbeck of Marionville, MO; and Tony Moore and wife Michelle of Marionville, MO. He will be fondly remembered by his in-laws, Sherry and Bud Hayes of Seymour, MO, as well as many other extended family members and dear friends.

Scott’s life was a testament to quiet strength, deep love, and the importance of cherishing every moment. He will be missed dearly and remembered always.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In honor of Scott, the family invites you to take a quiet moment outdoors or attend a worship service—acts he would have treasured. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery and Cremation of Joplin, MO
