Eugenia D. “Genie” Nielson
Eugenia “Genie” Darlene Nielson age 68 passed away on April 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of the family she held so dear. Born on July 15, 1956, Genie lived a life centered around what mattered most to her family, love, and showing up for the people she loved.
Genie married the love of her life, David Nielson, on November 29, 1974. Together they built a life full of laughter, love, and three wonderful sons: Chris, Tim, and Joe. She welcomed her daughters-in-law, Sabrina, Tracy, and Erica, with open arms, and considered them her own. Her greatest joy, though, was being “Nana” to her six grandchildren: Abbie, Grace, Rachel, Cooper, Laney, and Sydney.
Genie was their biggest fan. Whether it was color-guard, band, football, volleyball, or softball, you could always count on her being there on the sidelines, in the stands, and in every way that mattered. She never missed a moment and was endlessly proud of each and every accomplishment, big or small.
She also created the heart of so many holidays. Her home was the place where everyone gathered around the table for food, laughter, conversation, and hours of board games. She made those moments magical simply by being herself: loving, welcoming, and generous.
She is survived by her husband David, son Joe and his wife Erica, daughters-in-law Sabrina and Tracy, her beloved grandkids, two cats Gizmo and Casper and her sister Jane and brother-in-law Troy and many nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sons Chris and Tim Nielson, and her brother Bob McCullough.
Genie had a heart that made space for everyone, and a spirit that will live on in the lives she touched. She was fiercely loving, endlessly supportive, and truly irreplaceable.
We’ll miss her voice cheering from the sidelines, her hugs at the end of long days, and the way she made everything feel a little more like home.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 3:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
