He had a way of befriending strangers; everyone he came across was another new friend. His big-hearted kindness extended to the neighborhood, during his time at the lake, he liked to help his neighbors with the yard work. He became the neighborhood honorary grandpa, often fixing bikes, filling tires with air, and helping others with their cars.

In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by one brother, and one sister.
