Theda Faye Miller
Theda Faye Miller died on November 16, 2025 at the age of 87. She will be remembered for her faith, love of family and giving heart. She enjoyed travelling, and spending time with family and friends playing cards and games.
Theda was extremely artistic. She sewed, did all types of needlework, loved to cook, and even wrote a cookbook with her daughter. Everyone who met Theda loved her and her kind spirit. She never met a stranger and always had a house full of company eating, laughing, and playing games.
After being caregiver to her husband, Merton, in his last years and who died in 2020, she moved to Fort Worth, TX, to be near her daughter. In 2024, after health issues, she moved to Carthage, MO, to be close to her son.
She is survived by daughter Brenda Miller and husband Keith Sayer, of Fort Worth, TX; son Garrett Miller and wife Barbara, grandchildren Nolan, Caleb and Jayde, of La Russell, MO. Also, brother L.O. Huenergardt of Shattuck, OK; and nieces and nephews.
Theda was born on August 5, 1938, in Selman, OK, to father Ted Huenergardt and mother Dorothy Barton Huenergardt, who predeceased her.
She married Merton Lee Miller on October 20, 1956, in Buffalo, OK. They knew each other for three months before marrying and planned their wedding in three days. Upon Merton’s death, they were approaching 64 years of marriage. After their wedding, they moved to Wichita, KS, where she graduated from high school in 1957. Three years later, they returned to Buffalo, OK, to open a shoe repair business.
She spent the earlier years of her married life staying at home with her children. In their teens, she began working full-time and spent the remainder of her work life doing bookkeeping. She retired from Atwoods original store in Enid, OK, in 1991 after 12 years in the accounting department. Her greatest joy was volunteering at Integris Hospital’s gift shop in Enid, OK, after retirement.
Upon retirement, she and Merton took a 3-month long trip to Alaska. They returned to Alaska on a cruise with their kids and grandkids in 2006 to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Over the course of their marriage, they travelled to all 50 states and she traveled to 24 countries. They lived in eight cities during their married life including Enid, OK, twice; and Owasso, OK.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister Verna Snow; brother Louis Huenergardt; and siblings who died as infants, Mary, Clarence, and Clarene.
She was a member of Owasso First Methodist Church and the Owasso Senior Center.
A celebration of life service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the children’s charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park Crematory of Joplin, Mo
