Elaine Sue Legitt

Elaine S. Legitt, 54, of Chanute, Kansas passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Clinton, Iowa on December 9, 1970 to Marylin & Joe Gene Klingensmith.

Elaine attended Neosho Community College and Friends University earning degrees which eventually lead her to work at Tri Valley and later skill. She worked with clients with physical disabilities and independent living needs. she was an advocate for them during her long career as a healthcare service provider.

Elaine was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. Elaine enjoyed singing, crafting, long car rides, playing games and spending time with her family and friends, just a few things she loved. But her greatest joy of all was being a mother and wife.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband, John Legitt of 35 years, her daughters, Austeen, Tatianna Legitt and Candace (Dustin) Schaffer, 6 grand-children, Dante, Skyluer, Maleki, Cambna, Zoey & Paisley. Her mother, Marylin (Jim) Shue, stepmother, Mary Klingensmith, brother Daniel Klingensmith and nephew, William. Brother-in-law, Larry (Melissa) Legitt. Caregivers, Cheryl Aldrich, candace Schaffer and Jane Schaffer. Numberous uncles, aunts, cousins, & friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Gene Klingensmith, sister, Sandra Klingensmith and Keith Wright beloved friend.

A Celebration of Life for Elaine will be held at the Church of the Nazarene 1313 W 14th Street Chanute, KS. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025 at 11:00 am.
