Edna Ellen Stone

Edna Ellen Stone, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, at the age of 72, surrounded by her loving family at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Born on March 10, 1953, the daughter of James “Bud” and Eunice (Clifton) Fleming, Edna grew up in Joplin and attended Memorial High School. She pursued her passion for beauty and style, becoming a licensed beautician and cosmetology instructor. Her career took her to Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri, where she shared her skills with countless students and clients.

Edna married Raymond “Chip” Hailey on October 14th, 1970, and together they had two children: Camie Diane Hailey and Raymond “Ray” Howard Hailey III. After their divorce, she married James “Jim” Leo Stone II, and they had two daughters: Amethyst Ellen Stone and Sheila Marie Stone.

Throughout her life, Edna’s caring nature shone through in every role she took on. She not only worked in salons and cosmetology schools, but also welcomed friends and neighbors into her own living room for a haircut and conversation. In her later years, she found great fulfillment working for United Healthcare as a healthcare representative, helping people better understand their benefits.

Edna is survived by her son Ray Hailey, and wife Lynette, and her three grandchildren; Dylan, Hannah, and Madison Hailey, all of Joplin, and many other loving family members. Edna is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bud Fleming; her sisters, Mary Pickens and Elizabeth Fleming; her husband, Jim Stone; and her daughters; Camie Hailey, Sheila Stone, and Amethyst Stone; and grandson Jason Hailey

A visitation to celebrate Edna’s life will be held on Saturday, August 16, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Faith Assembly of God, 7211 East 32nd Street, Joplin, Missouri. She will be cremated, and there will be no formal funeral service. The family invites friends and loved ones to gather, share memories, and honor her life. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
