Norman Ambrosius

In Loving Memory of Norman Roy Ambrosius
        September 14, 1944 – June 19, 2025
Norman Roy Ambrosius, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in Joplin, MO, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, determination, and a zest for life. Born on September 14, 1944, in Rock Island, Illinois, Norman was the youngest of three children born to Donald and Irma Ambrosius.
A man whose life journey took him across the Midwest, Norman made homes in Rapid City, South Dakota; Kansas City; and Joplin, Missouri. His early years were marked by a spirit of adventure and an eagerness to explore life’s possibilities. He trained to be an airline pilot in Rapid City before attending Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Norman was a true outdoorsman at heart. He found joy and peace in nature, whether hunting pheasant in the open fields of western Kansas or casting a line for trout in the clear waters of Missouri. An avid golfer, he cherished time spent on the greens and relaxing at the Lake of the Ozarks.
Professionally, Norman was a powerhouse in sales. His career spanned several industries, including four years with Modern American Life and three years as State Manager for Prairie States Life in South Dakota. He later found success in auto sales in Kansas City, where he worked for 16 years, and ultimately owned his own business, Mid-Central Enterprises, which supplied contractors nationwide. His dedication and talent earned him over 67 trophies in sales and management—testaments to his unwavering commitment and charisma.
In 1965, Norman married Ruth Viola Rosbrugh. Though the couple later divorced in 1978 and had no children, they shared a meaningful chapter of life together.
Norman shared a special bond with his nephew and best friend, Gary, and Gary’s wife, Angel. He was a cherished uncle to Gwen (Troy) Malone and Gina (Lee) Breedlove, and a loving great-uncle to Zelina, Kylie, Alaina, and Zane. His legacy continues through his great-great-nephews Zerrick and Zeke, and great-great-niece Zariah. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Gloria Ambrosius.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Irma; his sister, Ruby Ambrosius; his brother, Gerald Ambrosius; and a great-great-niece, Aliza Ambrosius.
A man of conviction, Norman often reflected on his one regret—starting smoking at the age of 17. He successfully quit at 75, a testament to his strength and willpower, and often advised others with sincerity: “Never start.”
Throughout his life, Norman logged over 4 million miles on the road—a symbol of both his work ethic and his far-reaching impact. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him, not only for his achievements but for his warm heart, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty.
A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park Crematory Joplin, MO
