Philip Harold Chew
Philip Harold Chew was born on December 7, 1935, in Joplin, Mo to Harold and Fredricka Chew. He passed from this life on Saturday, May 3, 2025. Much of his life has been spent in Joplin, He graduated from Joplin High 1954 and attended many class reunions.
As a young man, Philip began working with his father selling televisions. They moved on to start Communication Service Company, specializing in sales and service of two-way radio systems. In addition, they began Joplin Mobilfone Service, Inc. which included car phones and pagers. Then in 1989, he worked with Cellular One to bring some of the first cell phones to Joplin.
He served 41 years in the Missouri National Guards; he retired as a Command Sargent Major. He enjoyed boating on area lakes, watching and attending NASCAR Races. He loved watching OU football, OU girls Soccer and the St Louis Cardinals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his oldest son, Tobe David Wells. He is survived by his wife, Judith and four children, Lesa Wells of Springfield MO, Marcinda Hempen of Joplin, MO, Robin Burns and husband Mike of Kansas City, Mo., Doug Chew and wife Vicki of Joplin Mo, and brother, Jerry Chew of Joplin, Mo.
He is also survived by six Grandchildren, Jeremy Wells and wife, Jessica of Anna, Texas, Joshua Wells and wife Stephanie of Princeton Texas, Hunter Hempen and wife Alyssa of Leavenworth Kansas, Connor Hempen and wife Kelli of Milwaukee Wisconsin, Koven Chew of Springfield Mo, and Kasen Chew of Tahlequah Ok.
He was blessed with Nine Great-Grandchildren, Jaycee, Jayleigh, Brecklyn, Mason, Ian, Blake, Auggie, Kavery, Kasper.
Services will be held May 17, 2025, 1:00pm Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, at 415 N St Louis Ave, Joplin, MO
Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park of Joplin, MO
